Road to recovery
Not much has happened this month but I have continued to make improvements and my training has really stepped up...
I am able to do all the sessions I would normally do leading up to a fight and it is now just a matter of getting back to fight fitness. My arm is still painful if hit, so I wear extra protection around it when I'm sparring but other than that I am going full steam ahead!
It is great to be back in the gym full time and with all my other team mates having fights coming up there's a great atmosphere. Not since UFC 105 has there been so many of the team having fights in such close proximity. It really brings the best out in us because we are focused on our fights and peaking at the same time so our training sessions become really intense and competitive.
I am hoping to be fighting in September, I have yet to have an opponent confirmed but by next month’s blog I should have all the details.
This past month saw another Wimbledon tournament come and go and for once the winners didn’t steal the show. Instead two relatively unknown players stole the headlines with a mammoth match that broke nearly all the records going in tennis. The match lasted over 11 hours and the final set ended 70-68 to the winner John Isner.
One interesting thing that I noticed during the marathon match was that Isner was taking Jarrow's Beta Alanine. He was mixing it with his drink during the game breaks and it seemed to do the trick because Isner came away with the victory.
Beta Alanine is an amino acid that supports the body's production of carosine in the muscle. It is used by the body to buffer lactic acid produced during intense exercise. This mopping up can then increase the anaerobic threshold of an athlete. Therefore supplementation is most beneficial for high intensity anaerobic exercise. Which is what effectively what tennis is, short bursts of anaerobic intense activity.
I take Beta Alanine and I find it really helps with allowing me to stay powerful for longer.
