Considered a non essential amino acid (the building blocks of proteins) L-Glutamine is one of the most abundant amino acids found in high concentrations in the intestinal mucosa cells, smooth muscle and skeletal cells and the brain. The cells of the intestines are the greatest users of glutamine as it gives support to the integrity of the intestinal lining because it is a major source of fuel for enterocytes (intestinal cells). The integrity of the intestinal lining relies on healthy enterocytes.
It is also involved in many metabolic processes including the synthesis and protection of muscle tissue and the production of glycogen and immune support during times of muscular and immune stresses. Required by every muscle in the body it is one of the most important building blocks of proteins that maintain cellular health and tissue repair.
