Amino Acids
Amino Acids are organic compounds that combine to form proteins, both amino acids and proteins are the building blocks of life and are essential components for all structures and functions in the body including enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters and connective tissues. They are classified into three groups.
- Essential Amino Acids – these cannot be made by the body. As a result they must come from food or supplementation.
- Non Essential Amino Acids – means that out bodies will produce these even if we don’t get them from the food we eat.
- Conditional Amino Acids – these are usually not essential except in times of illness and stress, they include Arginine, Glutamine, Tyrosine and Glycine amongst others.
