Ruth Stanley – 3rd Dan Preparation

After the three peaks challenge last June left me with knee issues it’s been a steady road to partial recovery. An MRI showed significant reduction in cartilage behind my knee cap which now limits the type of activity I can do, so for the last 6 months I’ve been on a programme of glucosamine tablets, physio and leg strengthening work.

The good news is that I’m still able to kickbox so I’ve been continuing my training in preparation for my 3rd Dan examination, which up until last night I believed was going to take place in May. The not so good news is that the exam has been brought forward to March 24th which leaves me only 8 weeks to prepare for my biggest kickboxing challenge and the highest technical exam I can achieve.

My first focus has to be building my fitness so I’m ready to give 100% for a very intense physical exam which could last up to 5 hours. With limited preparation time and being unable to carry out certain activities due to my knee this is going to be a challenge.  My fear is that I will be particularly exposed to picking up an injury as I don’t have time for a gradual increase in training and I need to get up to speed much quicker than my original 5 month plan.

My job for today is drawing up a training timetable. Luckily over the next 8 weeks my body will have the additional support of Thorne’s Glucosamine & Chondroitin, Omega Plus and Vitamin D
