After the three peaks challenge last June left me with knee issues it’s been a steady road to partial recovery. An MRI showed significant reduction in cartilage behind my knee cap which now limits the type of activity I can do, so for the last 6 months I’ve been on a programme of glucosamine tablets, physio and leg strengthening work.
The good news is that I’m still able to kickbox so I’ve been continuing my training in preparation for my 3rd Dan examination, which up until last night I believed was going to take place in May. The not so good news is that the exam has been brought forward to March 24th which leaves me only 8 weeks to prepare for my biggest kickboxing challenge and the highest technical exam I can achieve.
My first focus has to be building my fitness so I’m ready to give 100% for a very intense physical exam which could last up to 5 hours. With limited preparation time and being unable to carry out certain activities due to my knee this is going to be a challenge. My fear is that I will be particularly exposed to picking up an injury as I don’t have time for a gradual increase in training and I need to get up to speed much quicker than my original 5 month plan.
My job for today is drawing up a training timetable. Luckily over the next 8 weeks my body will have the additional support of Thorne’s Glucosamine & Chondroitin, Omega Plus and Vitamin D

This time of year can be a troublesome time for those of us who suffer from Asthma.
Charity Asthma UK says breathing in cold, damp air can make the airways tighten and trigger an attack in three out of four people. Leaving people coughing, wheezing and grasping for breath.
Those individuals who suffer from asthma are being encouraged to wear a scarf over their nose and mouth to prevent asthma attacks this winter. The charity’s #Scarfie campaign says “a scarf can save a life” but it’s not a replacement for asthma medicines.
Four million people with asthma in the UK say that breathing in cold winter air makes their asthma symptoms worse.
Dr Andy Whittamore, clinical lead at Asthma UK and a practising GP, said just going outside on a cold day could be life-threatening for many people with asthma.
“Living in the UK means that cold weather is impossible to avoid over winter, but if people have asthma, simply wrapping a scarf around their nose and mouth can warm up the air before they breathe it in, reducing their risk of having an asthma attack.
“We are urging everyone – whether they have asthma or know someone that does – to share the message that something as simple as a scarf could save a life.”
In the UK, 5.4 million people have asthma and just over one million of them are children.
